Lakeshore State Park recently became a certified Travel Green Wisconsin (TGW) site. In 2006 the WI Department of Tourism initiated Travel Green Wisconsin to promote smart, environmentally friendly practices in tourism businesses in the state. This program is the first state-sponsored sustainable travel certification program, and has become a model for sustainable travel efforts nationally and internationally. Certified TGW certified businesses and organizations adopt practices to reduce their own environmental impact through the following practices:
- Waste Reduction, Reuse, and Recycling
- Energy Efficiency, Conservation, and Management
- Water Conservation and Wastewater Management
- Air Quality Improvements
- Wildlife and Landscape Conservation and Management
- Transportation
- Purchasing
- Communication and Education (Customers, Employees, Public)
